What golf clubs were these?

Hi! In 2008 I went to a golf store to get my 2006 callaway big-bertha irons re-gripped. I was friendly with the golf pro there and he had me try either a taylor made iron set or a titleist iron set. I think it was taylor made, but I am not sure. Anyway, I loved the feel of these irons, and he said they would increase my distance. I am now looking for new irons (my callaway's don't feel right anymore) and would like to get the one I just mentioned. Unfortunately, the golf store went out of business. Does anyone know which irons these would have be. If you do, please tell me, it would be a big help. Thanks!

Sure sign of a sucker. Sorry, but you've been tricked by the classic bait-n-switch. Sounds like the guy wanted to make a last-second sale, and you were the "chosen one".

For one, he used the "these will give more distance" routine... That's not entirely accurate. Chances are, the lofts on the TM's were stronger (a trend nowadays) and the shaft was longer than your BBs. That IS going to add distance, but could cost you control. Besides, it'd only be something like 3-5 yards, anyway, if they happened to actually increase your distance.

Secondly, you allowed yourself to fall for his tricks- to the point where your old sticks aren't "right" anymore. Those BB's aren't that old, by irons standards- technology doesn't change that much, or enough to be completely relevant since the introduction of titanium and carbon-fiber... especially with iron technology.

Sadly, it gets worse. There's no way of knowing for sure what he was having you demo- could be old r7's (only a year older than your BB's), could be Burner's, Burner TP's, who knows? You could be embarking on a fools quest, with no happy ending.

My opinion would be to stick with what you have. Grips are the only physical contact you have with your clubs, and changing them obviously is going to have an immediate impact on your feel. Give them a fair shake. If they still don't feel right after a couple of months, go to a golf store and demo all the TM's they have. That's the only way of finding the clubs you seemed to have fallen in lust for. If you DO find them, get fitted for them. If you fall out of favor with your old irons that fast, I could imagine you'd suffer from buyer's remorse if the "off the shelf" sticks weren't right for you.
